- SOFT FIDO welcomes back Bruce Mendenhall from St. Paul Mn.
-
- Yesterday's Game Results:
-
- Numbers Game drawing conducted 13 Jan 1987 23:59
-
- The winner of 320 points in the random drawing was Jerry Brooks.
- In the Arithmetic Mean game, Jerry Brooks won 640 points
- with a bet of 239, the closest to the mean of 140.50.
- Nobody picked the secret number, 227, so the jackpot increases to 19655.
-
- Secret Winner Game results as of 13 Jan 1987 23:59
-
- Kevin Rushing failed to claim the prize in the Secret Winner game.
- The jackpot increases to 25000 points.
- Don't miss out... check the OUTSIDE section today!
-
-
- Remember, using BBS's is not your right; it's a privilege.
- SysOps put a lot of time and money into providing you with
- this service. Don't abuse it.
-
- Would you go to a party, and spend the whole time sitting in a
- More?
- corner by yourself gobbling up hors d'oeuvres? Help yourself
- to the goodies in the files sections, but be polite and talk to
- us, too. Check your private mail, and contribute to the messages.
-
- You have your "MORE" switch set to ON. You can cause text
- to scroll continuously by entering "C" at the main menu, then
- selecting "M". You can always use Ctrl-S to stop and Ctrl-Q
- to continue.

-
- B U L L E T I N S
-
- The following bulletins are arranged in reverse chronological order, with
- the most recent items first. Users should always read new items, since
- they may contain important announcements.
-
- 1/13/87 - I have a number of things to talk about:
-
- Many of you have been hanging up while in the OUTSIDE section. This is
- not good for the system; it must reboot every time this happens. Also,
- if you happen to hang up just as it is rewriting the score file at the
- More?
- end of an OUTSIDE session, it could cause the file to be messed up. This
- has happened several times already. Please exit OUTSIDE the proper way,
- by typing the "0" command; and then wait until your score is saved and
- a message is output saying it is okay to hang up, before you cut the
- connection.
-
- Speaking of OUTSIDE, the Numbers Game jackpot is at record levels;
- somebody will get lots of points when it is won. However, very few of
- the users have been taking advantage of this by playing the game. Don't
- miss out; enter your Numbers bets daily and be part of the action!
-
- One final thing; try to be sparing in your use of the "Yell" command.
- I'm getting tired of being interrupted while taking showers, eating
- dinner, watching TV, or sleeping by users who turn out to have questions
- which can be answered by reading my system bulletins and help messages,
- or who just want to chat because they're bored. It may seem a little
- rude, but I do have other things to do besides chat with every user.
- If you have a problem, first try reading any online bulletins, help
- messages, and documentation files. Then, if you still can't find an
- answer, try leaving a message (preferably public rather than private,
- so any user who knows the answer can reply and not just the sysop).
- Only if you have exhausted all other means, and the problem is urgent
- enough to require immediate action, should you use the "Yell" feature.
- More?
-
- If you follow this policy, I will be able to leave the command there
- for those who really need it; otherwise, I will be forced to disable
- it altogether.
-
- 11/18/86 - If you haven't already, please check out the OUTSIDE section.
- This is reachable through the O command from the main menu. It contains
- a number of programs and features, including online games which let you
- add to your score on an online scoreboard.
-
- Also in the OUTSIDE section are some useful features such as an ability
- to check for mail in all message sections, and examine parts of the FIDO
- nodelist.
-
- Notice: "Points" on the online scoreboard are for amusement only.
- They are not redeemable for anything, and they may not be purchased
- or transferred. They may be obtained and used only in the online
- games and other activities on this BBS. We will not be held responsible
- for the loss of user points through system errors or other causes.
-
- 7/14/86 - I've received complaints from users about the excessive number
- of private messages compared with the publicly-readable ones. I tend
- to agree; a BBS is rather boring if there's nothing to read in the
- More?
- message sections. Thus, I would appreciate it if users would try to
- make their messages public, unless there is something in them that
- really must be private. Your questions, comments, and answers to
- others' problems may be of use to others; make them public so the rest
- of us can see them.
-
- 7/9/86 - There seems to be a slight bug in FIDO's message sections;
- the number indicated as the "last message read" is sometimes off by
- one, and points instead to the first unseen message. Be sure to read
- all messages with numbers greater than or equal to the number given
- when you enter a message area, to ensure that you don't miss anything.

- Your current score is 100 points.
- Sorry, you're not the Secret Winner today. Check again tomorrow!
